I don’t know about you, but I love changing things up and learning more about different systems, tools, apps, courses
Today, the blogging tool that I’ll be going over is SiteGround. SiteGround is a fabulous web hosting platform that I love to bits. Prior to using SitegGround, I used Bluehost which was good, but honestly, the relationship that I have with SiteGround can only be comparable to the feeling you get when you finally found the perfect icecream flavour to satisfy your dairy needs <3 It’s seriously that amazing!
If you’re reading this, you are either likely to fall into one of the following categories… 1) you are keen to start a WordPress blog and make money online or 2) you have been blogging for a while and want to learn more about the different blogging platforms/hosts services available out there.

What is Web Hosting?
I know that it can be all sorts of confusing to hear all sorts of terms flung around on articles that you read online such as web hosting, domain names, website builders etc. when you aren’t a seasoned pro (yet!), so I’ll begin by briefly explaining what web hosting is.
Essentially, web hosting is needed for your website to be viewable on the Internet. Websites are hosted on special computers called servers and when people on the Internet want to visit your website, all they need to do is to type your web domain (your URL) into their browser. From there, their computer will then connect to your server and your website will be rought to them via their browser.
When do You Need Web Hosting?
If you’re ready to begin creating your poppin’ blog, then you might have researched a wide variety of potential blogging platforms to create your blog on. Sites such as Blogger, Wix, Weebly and
That is exactly why I recommend using a self hosted platform such as WordPress.org (not WordPress.com!). WordPress.org is the largest blogging platform out there and for good reason too! The amount of customization that you can do via their plugins, website themes and etc. is incomparable. Plus research has shown that WordPress.org websites tend to be more SEO friendly and rank higher in search engines! How nifty is that? However, if you want to use WordPress.org, you’be gotta find yourself your own hosting service.
So Why SiteGround?
Like I mentioned before, prior to Curated By Michelle, I ran a pile of my other blogs on Bluehost. I was sucked into the vortex where other bloggers kept promoting the wonders of Bluehost through affiliate marketing and so with so many people pushing for Bluehost, I naturally assumed like a silly lil’ pup that Bluehost was like da bomb when it actually wasn’t all that.
Bluehost negatively affected my website’s SEO by slowing down my page loading response speeds (a couple of my previous websites had a health score of 9/100 according to Google Page Speed Insights) and it had the terrible habit of spontaneously causing my website to ‘disappear’ for a few hours so that nobody trying to search for my website could access it. And trust me, that does really poorly for your online rep as a major blogging slayer if your blog keeps going under!
So can you blame me when I say that SiteGround is undeniably, hands down, a much better web hosting platform than Bluehost? SiteGround doesn’t just offer an amazing hosting service, great customer service, fast website loading speeds and their prices are just a downright steal. If you want to start a WordPress blog/website for the cheap, SiteGround is a really amazing option. (SiteGround offers plans starting from just a mere $3.95 per month, although they do occasionally drop below that price, and you can lock in those rates for up to three years!)
PLUS, not only is it a super affordable web hosting service, SiteGround offers new bloggers a crazily simple way to launch your blog. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised for a second if you had your WordPress blog live on SiteGround within the hour!
So, are you ready to stop wasting time and make your blogging dream come alive? Simply follow my SiteGround tutorial below and be the proud mama (or papa) to a beautiful new baby blog in a matter of minutes!
How to Start a Money Making WordPress Blog on SiteGround In Less Than an Hour
1. Choose a Bangin’ Hosting Plan for Your Blog
Yeeeee! Let’s get straight down to teaching you how to start a money making WordPress blog on SiteGround!
First, you will need to head on over to SiteGround and pick which hosting plan you love best. If you don’t know which plan you should be picking, have a read over these rough guidelines…
The StartUp Plan. If you’re just starting a blog on WordPress with SiteGround, then this is for you! Perfect for beginner bloggers with just a single website/blog that they need web hosting for, it is ideal for blogs that are getting less than 10,000/month of web visitors as you get 10GB of space and it offers all essential features like free customer service, free
The GrowBig Plan. Start a WordPress blog with SiteGround using this plan if you want a bang for your buck kind of plan. It allows you to host as many blogs/websites as your wee heart desires and it can support traffic to up to 25,000/month and you get 20GB of space. Not to mention, it doesn’t just include all those great essential features, but you have access to all the premium features such as free website transfer (if you have an existing blog on a different web hosting service), free backup restores and
The GoGeek Plan. The King of all plans, starting a blog on WordPress with SiteGround using this plan lets you host unlimited blogs/websites, supports traffic up to 100,000/month and gives you 30GB of space. Offers access to all essential features, premium feautres and geeky advanced features such as enabling you to be on a server with less accounts (thus you’ll have a faster and more reliable hosting response), WordPress staging and free website backups on demand etc. This plan typically costs approximately $11.95/month.
My personal recommendation? Start a blo with the cheapest plan aka. the StartUp Plan and gradually, when you find that your blog is evolving and your needs are changing, then you can always opt to scale up!

2. Pick a Domain Name
The next step to starting a WordPress blog with SiteGround is selecting a domain name. Don’t rush this process and take your time to seriously think about it because switching domain names halfway through the process can get super messy and we don’t want that!
When you are paying for SiteGround, you will see under the * EXTRA SERVICES segment an option for domain registration (i.e. your URL). Personally, I don’t recommend getting your domain name through SiteGround. This is just because I believe that it is a lot cheaper and
For example, if you bought your domain name through SiteGround, it costs $15.95/year for domain registration and another $15.00/year for domain privacy. This comes to a grand total of $30.95/year for a domain name. This might not sound like heaps, but if you compare it to GoDaddy, it is a lot cheaper, with it’s domain names starting from just $1.25/year!
3. Adding Your Billing Information
The next step is to enter your desired login information in the account information section and all your personal details in the client information section. Following that, whip out your payment information info to pay for everything. They only accept credit or debit cards on SiteGround, but if you would like to use a different payment method like PayPal, you will have to contact SiteGround directly.
4. Choosing Your Plan Length
The great thing about SiteGround’s hosting services is that you have the option of locking down the rate through which you used to sign up for up to three years. This is seriously an awesome option that the majority of hosting services don’t actually offer. With the majority of hosting services, you will have access to a cheap and incredible rate for the first year and then BAM POWWWW! You’ll be smacked across the face with a skyrocketed annual fee.
However, if you are brand new to blogging and you don’t know if it is for you yet, then by all means, just lock it in for 12 months because 36 months can be a relatively large financial commitment for the ‘on-the-fence blogger’.
5. Pay ‘em Bills!
Once you’ve got the final bill settled, you, my friend, are now the proud soon-to-be mama or papa of a beautiful baby blog!
I know, I know, starting a blog on WordPress with SiteGround is a breeze!

6. Connecting Your Domain to SiteGround
If you registered your domain with SiteGround, then you can skip this section. But, if you purchased your domain name from an outside source i.e. GoDaddy, then follow the following instructions…
The moment you’re in the main customer area of SiteGround, click on the My Accounts tab. Following from there, click on the red Go to cPanel button.
On the left hand side of your cPanel, you will notice that the nameserver of your SiteGround hosting account. However, if you purchased your domain from an outside source, then you will need to update the nameserver of the domain to point to SiteGround.
